CTV Morning Live - Anti-Aging Devices

When asked about some of the industry's most truly innovative anti-aging devices, I just knew I needed to share this information with my fan base and beyond. This is a very common concern for many people, not just women, and it certainly doesn't imply vanity. This morning, I was on CTV Morning Live with Melissa, talking about a couple of great devices available on the market right now. So, if you're dealing with hyperpigmentation or fine lines and wrinkles, I may have the products for you!

First up - Clarisonic Sonic Radiance Solution!

Now for a statistic, I found this intriguing. The #1 concern when it comes to aging, or rather anti-aging, is hyper pigmentation - and this is true across the board no matter of gender or race. We all know hyperpigmentation is when we see darkening patches on the skin, whether we call them age spots, sun spots, freckling... all the same thing. Hyper pigmentation happens as a result of injury (who knew) and this injury can be caused by many things like environment, acne, stress, and sun exposure to name a few. Essentially your skin produces extra melanin (which is the pigment that gives our skin the colour it is) in it's repairing process. These spots can be hard to cover, and well frankly, most people just want them gone!

Clarisonic saw a huge need for this in the marketplace, and for the first time ever, have created an entire system dedicated to reducing the appearance of current spots, and helping to prevent new ones. Immediate results are seen when using their specifically designed Sonic Radiance skin care, and it just keeps getting better from there!

  • 37% clinical improvement of skin texture
  • 2.5x greater skin clarity & improved radiance VS. manual treatment

And the most impressive stat yet...

  • 10x greater improvement of hyper pigmentation VS. manual treatment after two weeks

What?! 10 times?? That is HUGE! It's important to know that these studies are very closely tracked and documented - a lot of work goes into a getting a clinical trial and to be able to make a claim on a product. So these results say A LOT. And they are based on using the same skin care either with, or without, the device. So while the skin care is great, the device is what makes it oh-so-special!

Now onto the products themselves:

Clarisonic Aria - offers customizable, three speed sonic cleansing. What's also important to know, is that while the device itself is an existing model, the brush head itself is the softest, most gentlest brush in their entire line up. To purchase this Sonic Radiance brush head separately to go on your current Clarisonic device, click here.

Skin Illuminating Cleanser - this is going to be your morning cleanser, as it will leave your skin bright and radiant - a lovely way to start the day! You'll use Speed 1 with this cleanser.

Skin Renewing Peel Wash - this will be your evening cleanser and this is where the exfoliation magic happens. Combining two key ingredients of 0.2% LHA and 3.5% Glycolic Acid, will help to improve texture, boost moisture and fade those pesky age spots! You'll use Speed 3 at nighttime only with this cleanser.

Brightening Activating Serum - this will be used both day and night to help lighten dark spots and help to prevent new ones from forming.

So all in all - this is a huge win for the skincare and anti-aging market. Nothing I love more than some really fantastic products I can use in the comfort of my own home. The Clarisonic Sonic Radiance Solution set is available for $265 CAD at clarisonic.ca. If you already have and love a Clarisonic device, you can simply purchase the skin care and brush head, for $132 here.

Which brings me to the Tria Age-Defying Laser (ADL)! I almost can hear the heavenly angels sing when I type those words.

Admittedly nervous when I first tried it, apprehension set in... Was I actually going to use a laser on my face, and if so, how much was it going to hurt?? Well, I did... and so happy I did!

The ADL is a super exciting device in the marketplace - I mean, we are talking about taking an experience that used to only be found in dermatologists and plastic surgeons offices for a) loads of money and b) a bunch of downtime, that involves a sunburned appearance and flaking skin.

Well folks, the Tria ADL has neither! A reasonable price point and no virtually downtime - SIGN ME UP!

I initially didn't want to bore you with statistics, but I am a stats girl - anyone can say their product is 'great', but if you have the numbers to prove it, I'm all ears! This info is taken directly from the Tria website:

  • 83% of people feel the ADL leaves their skin better looking than any other product
  • 88% of users report smoother skin texture
  • 77% report a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles (including around the eye area)
  • 77% of users agree that the ADL is as effective as professional laser treatments
  • 80% of users reported a reduction in discolouration

This page here describes really well how the ADL works, and why (and the informative graphic really helps too :) )

How does it feel? Well... I ain't gonna lie. It doesn't hurt, but you definitely feel it. Perhaps could be described as a zillion tiny little elastic bands snapping across your skin? Yes, that sounds accurate. But while it offers very mild discomfort and a tinge of redness, you know it's working. It's at bedtime anyways, and totally gone by morning - don't forget to sunscreen it up come day time, though!

How does it work? To make the explanation easy, is to say this: it is a fractional laser that uses light beams to create microscopic cellular disruptions deep within the skin (not epidermis... we are talking dermis here). What this does, is it tells your skin to go into a normal healing process, which stimulation collagen production and to rapidly repair those treated areas. As this happens, the new collagen creates a smoother texture on your skin's surface, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and discolouration is discarded through the skin's natural exfoliation process.

What I like about the ADL, is that it is easy to use. Once you read through the manual, you quickly discover that it's pretty fool-proof as well. Starting with freshly cleansed and dried skin, the little light tells you that you're using it properly, and it turns off if you're not. It also has a Canada Medical Device License (I don't think I'd be using a laser that didn't, but this is still very reassuring to know).

The products that are available for purchase really do compliment the device so well - they are designed for and meant to work together.

Anti-Aging Facial Serum - $75; soothes and hydrates treated skin; contains retinol; skin sees improvement in elasticity and firmness while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Super C Brightening Moisturizer - $69; delivers up to 4x more brightening ingredients following laser treatment; Vitamin C has been long known for its anti-oxidant properties and will help to brighten skin

Overnight Brightening Boost Facial - $75; formulated to infuse potent brightening and moisturizing ingredients back into laser treated skin (both Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid help with this)

As with any device, it is extremely important that you thoroghly read the manual before using. Tria also requires you to sign-up your ADL via your email address, and by entering in your device's serial number. Once you move onto the actual treatment process, you will quickly learn how to use it (horizontal motion) and for how long, as each setting is different. I'm still currently on level 1, but hope to move up to level 2 soon. The suggested treatment course is eight weeks on, and then four weeks off. I'll be sure to post an update at the 8 week mark.

The Tria Age-Defying Laser retails for $569,  and all of the Tria Beauty Age-Defying Products can be found at their website, triabeauty.ca.

So there you have it - two incredible new devices on the market that help to target the top two skincare concerns. Let me know if you have any further questions, or if you end up giving them a try!
